Google Makes Podcasts Playable in Search Results

Google Not Being Able to Index New Content, Again

Google is having issues indexing new content again and the URL Inspection tool is also having issues.

There is a bug that Google said is “impacting some sites.” But it is bigger than some sites. From our view, this seems much larger than just “some sites.” Clearly Google is eager to fix any indexing issues, because Google wants to surface the most recent content from publishers. For Google to not show breaking news from the Washington Post, New York Times, Wall Street Journal and other popular magazines is something Google probably isn’t too happy about.

Google Makes Podcasts Playable in Search Results

Google is now surfacing podcast episodes that can be played directly in search results.

Playable podcast episodes will be displayed in addition to regular search results when users are specifically searching for podcasts.

Google says it will surface podcasts based on its understanding of what’s being discussed in an episode.

Earlier this year, we reported that Google was automatically transcribing podcast episodes, which made them searchable in the Google Podcasts app.

That explains how Google can understand what is being talked about in individual episodes.

Will Swapping Fresh Content Help Your SEO?

Simply, does “freshness” affect rankings?

This is not a simple yes or no answer, as in most things SEO, it depends.

In this particular situation, I would not write three pieces of content and then change the single page on a monthly basis. This does not meet the freshness requirement, anyway.

Google is trying to understand what your webpage is about topically. If you’re changing that regularly, then it would more likely do more harm than good.

So what does freshness mean?
